Hi, I’m Carla and I am so glad you’re here.
I have been passionate about mental health from a young age and am a strong advocate for removing the stigma often associated with seeking support and treatment. As a practicum student, I am excited to be using my own lived experiences in combination with my professional skills to support and encourage others on their path to well-being.
I believe that you are in the driver’s seat of your own life, and that can be scary and overwhelming at times. Using a client-centred approach means that you take the wheel, but I am right there next to you when you need some support and guidance.
As a Crisis Responder for the Vancouver Island Crisis Line and also 9-8-8 Canada (previously Talk Suicide), I am supportive of the needs of clients who may be struggling with trauma, grief, and other heavy topics. I hold a certificate in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills (ASIST) as well as a post-graduate certificate in Addiction Care and Treatment from the University of British Columbia.
I am dedicated to creating a safe and collaborative space to explore goals, gain new skills, and improve an overall sense of well-being. I use an integrated counselling approach which is trauma-informed and incorporates several counselling modalities based on client needs. I also work from a Culturally Responsive and Socially Just (CRSJ) lens and welcome LGBTQ2S+ clients and clients from diverse backgrounds. I currently provide counselling for individuals, couples, families, and children aged 10 and above.
