Kate Pinsonneault

Kate Pinsonneault is an approved Clinical Supervisor with BCACC and has been offering individual and group supervision and consultation to Master’s-level students and clinical counsellors since 2016. Through regular case consultations, skill-building, and exploring both theory and real-world application, supervision with Kate supports your professional development.

Site Supervision for Practicum Students

Kate takes on a small number of student interns each term from a variety of universities.  If you are interested in completing your practicum placement with Seahorse Counselling and Psychotherapy, please send your resume and cover letter to kate@seahorsecounselling.ca.  Please apply well in advance for these few openings.

Friday Weekly Supervision group

This weekly lunchtime supervision group meets weekly for 8 weeks and is offered 3 times a year (Sept – Nov, Jan – Mar, and Apr – Jun). Participants bring topics, cases, or questions to the group for discussion and mutual learning.  This confidential group allows counsellors to openly discuss issues related to their practice. Supervisees benefit from direct supervision and mentorship as well as peer support as we discuss challenges, share resources, and learn new therapeutic techniques. This group has a maximum of 8 participants.

Monthly monday morning supervision

This group meets on the second Monday of each month from Sept – June,10:30am – 12:00pm each year.  It focuses on in-depth discussions and peer support, tailored to participants’ interests and needs. It fosters a collaborative environment for professional growth, skill-building, and shared learning. This group has a maximum of 8 participants.

ifs supervision GROUP

This online supervision group meets biweekly on Tuesdays from 3:30pm-5:00pm for 7 meetings and is offered 3 times a year (Sept – Nov, Jan – Mar, and Apr – Jun). It is for counsellors who are incorporating IFS into their clinical practice.  This is an opportunity to deepen and expand your understanding of this model and hone your clinical skills using IFS. This group offers a supportive, confidential space to discuss the challenges that arise using IFS with clients, explore our own therapist parts, and learn more about the complexities of the IFS model.

Each hour counts as Direct Supervision

50-60 Minute Session Review

Receive personalized feedback on your clinical work through video review. Kate is an RCC, an Approved Clinical Supervisor, and an IFS-Approved Clinical Consultant. She will review a 50 minute video and provide in-depth written feedback on your client session. Please let Kate know if you’d like specific feedback and how much time you’d like her to spend on your video review.  If you wish, you can also book a meeting with Kate to discuss her observations and recommendations.

You also have the option of sending a short video clip of 15- 20 minutes focused on a specific counselling moment or issue, to provide you with targeted insights to support your clinical growth.

IFS Consultation in Preparation for ifs-i certification

To become a certified IFS Therapist, you are required to have 15 hours of clinical consultation with an IFSI Approved Clinical Consultant. Seven hours must be individual consultation and the rest can be group consultation with a maximum of 6 participants. If you wish to apply for IFSI Certification, your IFSI Consultant will also need to evaluate 8 competency areas in order to recommend you for certification. The best way to do this is through a video review of your IFS session.

IFS Consultation Group

Our 1.5 hour consultation meetings will focus on each of the 8 competencies required for certification followed by discussion and Q&A.  This provides 7.5 hours of group consultation towards your IFS Certification or clinical supervision if required by your association.

IFS Video REview

The best way to assess your readiness to become a Certified IFS Therapist is to have Kate watch a video of you providing an IFS Session.  Kate can then let you know if there are any areas that may need improvement or if you demonstrated the competencies required in all 8 areas that will be assessed for certification.

Supervision of Supervision

If you are a Supervisor Candidate and require Supervision of Supervision hours, please book a free consultation with Kate to discuss your needs and the requirements of your association.  Kate is an experienced Approved Clinical Supervisor with BCACC (ASC) and Supervisor Mentor (SOS).  Kate will work collaboratively with you to develop your supervisory skills, including building supportive professional relationships with the clinical counsellors you supervise, learning to evaluate the needs of your supervisees, finding effective ways to address ethical concerns and create documentation for follow-up, and learning about your legal and ethical responsibilities as a clinical supervisor.  During SOS meetings, Kate will take time to discuss any challenges you might encounter with your supervisees. She can also review and give feedback on your supervision contract, professional disclosure statements, and your philosophy/reflection paper required for BCACC.
